Discarded, lost, or abandoned fishing gear, also known as ghost gear, can have wide-ranging impacts on our marine environment. From ecological damage to safety hazards and economic losses, ghost gear has become an issue with many potential consequences.

The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation partnered with fishermen and other stakeholders to begin to address this issue in Rhode Island and started removing and recycling ghost gear from Narragansett Bay [cfrfoundation.us16.list-manage.com] in January-March 2023.

We'd love for you to join us and learn about the results of our first removal and recycling activities. We'll answer your questions and share our plans for next year's project activities in the Bay and the ports.

A virtual option will be available, please email Susan Inglis at singlis@cfrfoundation.org to receive a link.
