2023 Rhode Island Food System Summit Date: January 18, 2023 — 9:00am to 12:00pm Registration: https://web.uri.edu/food-center/foodsummit23/registration/ The University of Rhode Island is hosting the seventh annual Rhode Island Food System Summit focused on the future of Rhode Island’s food system on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, from 9 a.m. to noon. Join government, academic, business, and community partners as we discuss critical food systems issues and work together to build a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable food system for Rhode Island. This year’s event will be virtual and will feature a keynote address “Accelerating Solutions at the Intersection of Food, Health, and Climate: Collective Impact and the Power of Partnership,” by Sophie Egan, an author and authority on food’s impact on human and environmental health. The event will also feature Rhode Island’s director of food strategy, Julianne Stelmaszyk, who will share her efforts to develop the state’s next food strategy. An in-person networking reception will also be offered on Jan. 18 at Tilted Barn Brewery in Exeter, R.I. from 5–7 p.m. A food truck will be on site for anyone interested in purchasing food; a cash bar will also be offered. We have partnered with several local organizations across the state to host breakout sessions beginning in February 2023 to further examine issues facing our food system. Topics will include growing our agricultural and seafood industries; cultivating food entrepreneurship; growing farm to school; and growing good food jobs. We hope you will consider joining us for these events. Registration will open after the Jan. 18 Food Summit.
